This exciting renovation project is located in Koukos, on the outskirts of Fres, at the foot of the White Mountains in the Apokoronas region.
The property has great potential for restoration, with a total building allowance of 150sqm. Its terraced land has its own well and a variety of established, mature trees. There are 3 plots, with a total of 540sqm.
The plot and the building are on different levels, surrounded by greenery in a rural location.
There is an intricate network of paths in the vicinity and an old kalderimi leads alongside the Fres gorge towards the rugged, mountainous interior, with its mix of fertile plains and hillsides covered in olive groves, wild flowers and aromatic herbs.
Fres is on the bus route and is well provided with a school, tavernas, kafenions and shops, which include a baker, butcher and mini market. Chania airport and the beaches at Kalives and Georgiopolis are all within easy reach by car.
Fres is a vibrant, village in the foothills of White Mountains, with a shady main square, a school, an information centre, tavernas, cafes, a mini-market, a bakery and butcher’s shop. The main square is a popular meeting place from which an archway leads to the upper part of the village and the church of Madonna of the Two Rocks – perched on two large rocks and surrounded by well-tended terraced gardens. From there an easy walk leads up to St. Antonius’ cave, offering panoramic views to Souda Bay and Akrotiri Peninsular. There is a variety of tavernas in the village and many footpaths lead into the mountains and link the neighbouring villages too. Chania can be reached in about half an hour by car, while the town of Vrisses, with supermarkets, shops, tavernas, a bank, a garage and a post-office, is only 7 km away. The beaches at Kalyves and Georgioupolis are also easily accessible from the village of Fres. Chora Sfakion, on the south coast, is less than one hour’s drive away.
